⭕ The Canary Islands Minister of Tourism, has announced that the draft law regulating holiday rentals is expected to be completed by the end of June. The law will incorporate “improvements,” such as reducing the minimum “useful” area from 39 to 25m2 plus additional equipment to meet “certain quality standards for these accommodations.” Homes that want to remain in the holiday let market must meet at least one of ten additional equipment requirements.

⭕ Court No.3 of Santa Cruz has ruled in favour of Melisolfi Consulting, annulling the order of suspension and sealing of the construction of the cultural and commercial centre Arts Lifestyle & Shopping between Los Cristianos and Playa Las Americas. The court also nullified the fine of €190,000 imposed on November 27 and December 9, 2020, respectively, by the former Mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena.

Puertito de Güímar, will have a priority parking area for its residents. The BOP published on Monday the decree approving the proposal to regulate parking on public roads and guarantee rotation in certain areas to distribute parking and traffic flow. Priority parking for residents will be on both sides of the road on C. Almirante Churruca, Almirante Gravina, Alcalá Galiano and Guillermo Rodríguez. The days and times will be from Monday to Sunday, including holidays, 24 hours a day. However, parking without a time limit will depend on authorization after payment of a municipal fee and will be controlled by the Local Police. In the case of non-residents, the maximum parking time will be 60 minutes

⭕ The National Court has convicted a man arrested for drug trafficking and belonging to a criminal gang when he tried to transfer 150,100 in cash from Los Rodeos airport to Barcelona. This man is considered the leader of a gang made up of seven other people and is credited with having made an “enormous” number of trips both by plane and by AVE between Ibiza, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Seville and Barcelona.

⭕ The Tax Agency in the Canary Islands annuls the tax registration exemption that people with disabilities benefited from because it considers its purpose, that of facilitating mobility, is not met by a motorhome, designed especially for living. There is no evidence that this is happening in the rest of the country.

On Monday, the Cabildo of Tenerife presented the operation to prevent and extinguish forest fires, which has reinforcements in both human and material resources. In total, 600 professionals will ensure the surveillance and control of forest fires during the current campaign. The land teams will add around 300 troops, to which are added the self-protection plan of the Teide National Park (42), the Tenerife Fire Consortium (240) and Civil Protection. Vehicles operating in the summer campaign, running until November 3, include a 3 Mercedes Unimog U300, which stand out for their lightness, penetration capacity and versatility. In total Tenerife will have 25 trucks, 16 of them permanent, while the oldest vehicles have been retired to the reserve. Also nine new forestry pumpers, as well as two helicopters, both based at the South Airport, one of which is operational all year round and the other for seven months, coinciding with the campaign.

⭕ The Institute of Hemodonation and Hemotherapy, has launched a service for sending via email the analysis that the ICHH performs on each donation, a measure that has been requested by regular donors. Regular donors will automatically receive their analytics as long as they have provided their email. New donors will receive their analysis along with their card in paper format when they donate for the first time. Those who do not want to receive their analysis must inform ICHH by calling 900 234 061

⭕ Spain’s Constitutional Court has backed a reform to the country’s abortion laws that was passed last year by the government that allows 16 and 17-year-olds to terminate pregnancies without parental permission. Sources from the top court told reporters that many judges rejected an appeal which was filed by the far-right Vox party.

⭕ The Hospital del Norte de Tenerife is expanding its services, as seen by the recent start-up of the two operating theatres for major outpatient surgery in the afternoon and the plan to offer hospitalisation at home. In terms of specialist doctors, the Outpatients’ Department has seventeen different specialities and the HUC has already reinforced the staff for Haematology, Urology and Cardiology and is awaiting the recruitment of a specialist in Dermatology. SCS has an improvement project underway for the Hospital del Norte, which includes a sterilisation service for surgical instruments as a complement to the CMA and a project for the laboratory area is also underway. Additionally, the HUC is working to set up a Cytostatic Unit before the end of the year and is also preparing to set up a Blood Bank for the hospital.

⭕ On Tuesday, the Council of Ministers approved €2.9 million to the Canary Islands to expand free oral health coverage and strengthen public dental care throughout the territory. It is intended for children and adolescents and people over 14 years of age with intellectual disabilities or with a disability that limits the mobility of the upper limbs, periodic check-ups and other treatments are included.

⭕ Education will invest €77 million in creating and expanding schools in the south of Tenerife.  The plan presented on Tuesday includes 27 measures that include the creation of 10 new schools and the expansion of 17.

⭕ The industrial water treatment plant of the Granadilla Industrial Estate is now operational and discharging treated water into the sea. Its start-up represents a quantitative and qualitative improvement in the level of sanitation and purification of wastewater. It will serve both the already urbanised sectors of the industrial complex and future urban developments, as well as the facilities of the Port of Granadilla and the company DISA.

⭕ Two out of every three young Canarian women suffer or have suffered gender violence. A study carried out by the University of La Laguna also reveals that one in four has been the subject of physical attacks, while one in five has been the victim of sexual attacks.

The Tenerife Auditorium, which cost €74 million when it was inaugurated in 2003 is in advanced disrepair and even has duct tape on its roof. According to a report and due to adhesion problems, the ideal would be to replace all the raised or fallen trencadís because, otherwise, the water continues to leak and a domino effect occurs that causes the condition to spread much further. The problem is that this report is from 8 years ago and not only has nothing been done, but everything has gotten worse. 

⭕ The University of La Laguna (ULL) has decided to break all relationships with universities and research centres in Israel, which includes doctoral programs and Erasmus+ mobility, as well as review agreements with companies and financial institutions in that country. This is part of the measures announced by the University in relation to the situation in the Gaza Strip and in which the Rectorate expresses, “the feelings of our campuses and the various demands by different groups of our university community.”

⭕ The CB Canarias will be renamed La Laguna Tenerife as the La Laguna town council becomes its main sponsor. The club bids farewell to the Lenovo brand, which ends its collaboration agreement after three years in which the electronic brand had acquired the name of the first team.

⭕  CD Tenerife fans already know how their team will dress next season in home games. The club has unveiled the first kit for the 2024-2025 season and the main novelty is that the cross will be blue on a white background. For the first time this element appears in a central position – instead of on a shoulder – for the home kit, a motif until now reserved for away games, as happened last year.  Some fans have criticised the price of the new shirt which is €80, to which a supplement of €15 would have to be added for the screen printing of the name and number, whether it is a player or in case the buyer wants to personalize it.

⭕  The Cabildo of Tenerife, in the session of the Government Council held on Wednesday, approved the work of the direct lane from San Isidro to El Médano. The work has a budget of €1.1 million and consists of connecting the TF-642 in Granadilla de Abona, which runs parallel to the TF-1 in the direction of Santa Cruz with the TF-64 in San Isidro heading towards El Médano.

⭕  Tenerife Cabildo has launched a free on-demand transport service for residents of Güímar, Arico, and Fasnia. This project aims to provide efficient transport options for people living in remote locations within these municipalities. The service can be booked via a mobile app or by phone and will use taxis, tourist vehicles with drivers and minibuses. The service will be available on weekdays from 6:30am to 8:30pm.
