Puerto de la Cruz prepares for its great holiday month

July arrives and the heat, the days on the beach, the walks in San Telmo … in Puerto de la Cruz that means preparing for one of the most intense and festive months of the year, the July Festivities.

Religious Acts

The Virgin of the Carmen is one of the symbols of these holidays. It is held the Tuesday before July 16, where the image leaves the fishing pier, surrounded by followers and the curious who do not want to miss this sea procession. There are also more processions and religious celebrations throughout the month in honour of the patron saint of the city.

Holiday events

The religious acts are joined by various festive events throughout the month. Exhibitions, parrandas, surfing courses … Whether you want to live the party to the maximum with sporting championships or prefer to know the folklore of the people, an agenda full of activities awaits so do not miss anything during Puerto de la Cruz’s big month. One of the funniest events is the “Gran Cucaña”, where curious and brave try to run on a pole placed out from the fishing pier.

Election of the Queen

One of the important events of these holidays is the election of the queen for the July fiestas celebrated on 6th July. Nine candidates will aspire to the crown that will award them the title of Queen for the year, the winner will be accompanied by two maids of honour.
