On May 27, thousands of people will take to the streets, throughout Spain, demanding decent living conditions for all, And the same will happen in the Canary Islands, where demonstrations and gatherings will take place in Tenerife, La Palma, El Hierro, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria.

In the Canary Islands we have more reasons than anyone to protest.Unemployment is 25% of the working population – six points higher than the state average – and rises to 27% in women and 52% in those under 25 years of age. Canary Islands pensions are among the lowest and 8% below the average. On May 8 the City of Arona announced the project of the construction of a pedestrian walkway in the Avenue of Chayofita in Los Cristianos. The maximum budget for the project according to the council is 747,000 euros and the timescale is 4 months. The Local Police of San Miguel de Abona has begun the annual inspection of the fleet of taxis of the municipality “with the objective of maintaining the high quality of the service, as well as improving the image of the sector”. The work counts on the unanimous collaboration of the taxi drivers and the councils of Tourism and Transport, consists in the verification of the state of the vehicle, the security measures, the taximeter, that the documentation is up-to-date and uniformity, among others things.


Data from the first four months of this year shows an increase of more than 40,000 passengers on the inter-island passenger ships compared to the same period of 2016. This is a direct result of the growth of our islands, which are experiencing great socio-economic expansion, with special emphasis on tourism.
