Firefighters and Civil Protection volunteers learn to extinguish forest fires

The Ministry of Territorial Policy, Sustainability and Security of the Canary Islands, will train thirty forest officers, firefighters and volunteers of Civil Protection Tenerife in the techniques of extinguishing forest fires, a course to be held in Santa Cruz from 19 to 21 May.

The training program includes analyses and behaviour of forest fires with the aim that students learn to detect the pattern of spread, in order to extinguish efficiently and safely. The course includes a practical part, which will take place the last day when participants can apply all the concepts learned during the program. Source: eldigitalsur

Spain’s healthcare ranks among top ten in world

Spain is ranked 8th in the world for its standard of healthcare, according to new research published in the UK journal The Lancet on Thursday, following studies of healthcare in 195 countries.

Spain scored 90 points out of a maximum 100, placing it eighth in the world rankings, above the healthcare systems of Italy (89), France (88), Greece (87), Germany (86), the UK (85) and Portugal (85). Andorra topped the Index with a score of 95 and the UK was placed 30th and the US 35th.

Bullying in La Laguna, the aggressor apologizes

A 14 year old who appears in the video assaulting a 13 year old outside a school in La Laguna is “repentant” and asks forgiveness.  Her family, pointed out that she made a mistake and she has admitted that she should not have used violence, let alone allow a friend to record the scene for later distribution through social networks and Mobile phones.

Seized 250kilos of hashish and €210,000 in Santa Cruz

Agents of the National Police have arrested in the Canary Islands 10 men and a woman between 23 and 44 years of age, one of them of Moroccan nationality and the rest Spanish, as alleged perpetrators of a crime of drug trafficking. Nine of those arrested had a police record.

A police investigation initiated at the end of last year detected a shipment of 250kg of hashish in Tenerife, and the police arrested six people in the locality of Icod de los Vinos. The criminal network carried out drug and money shipments through parcel companies, camouflaging these among the legal merchandise they transported. Following this intervention this criminal group from Gran Canaria, whose main member was known by the nickname “the prince.” is completely dismantled.

Vacation rental accuses the Government of acting against its interests.
