Nuestra Señora de África Market

One of the unmissable spots of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is Nuestra Señora de África market, right in the heart of the capital.

Its colonial architecture with spacious patios full of light hosts a feast for the eyes, nose and palate. Local flowers, spices that fill its recesses with aromas, an enormous variety of fruits: mangos, passion fruit, guavas, oranges and lemons grown on the island – just give in to temptation. The market has several traditional cafeterias, while the lower floor awaits you with top class food. In the fish zone, Marisquería Nicomedes tempts you with oysters, shrimps, tiger prawns and red shrimps served with a glass of sparkling or white wine; a couple of metres away is El Japonés, where fish such as pink dentex, tuna or brown meagre are transformed there and then into delicious Asian specialities. In another corner, Las Dunas lures you with some ceviche or a bite of octopus with aubergine while, in La Ría, the Huelva prawns and excellent sparkling wine will leave you speechless. From Tuesdays to Sundays, and especially during weekends, this area of the market is a must for good food lovers.
