Jeep Safaris in Tenerife

What better way to explore on a holiday to Tenerife than taking an open top jeep safari? It certainly beats the stress of car hire and driving on unfamiliar roads, not to mention navigating yourself and trying to find your way around. Open top jeep safaris are convenient in another way too – they pick up and drop off at many of popular resorts in the south of Tenerife.

One such adventure takes you on a tour to the island of La Gomera, just a 90 minute ferry ride away. If you fancy taking in some other attractions of the Canary Islands, this is the tour for you. It starts from Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas, Costa Adele or Playa Paraiso ready to ferry you across the water to San Sebastian on La Gomera, where you’ll pick up your jeep to spend the day being driven around this lush and exotic island. You’ll pass through Garajonay National Park with breathtaking rocky vistas and captivating laurel forests. You’ll drive through quaint villages and see local demonstrations, with plenty of stops for refreshment and lunch (paid for separately) before heading back to the ferry and Tenerife.

The jeeps are large eight seaters, so if you’re in a party there’s room for everyone, and being open topped everyone gets panoramic views of the entire area. Alternative jeep safaris are available that don’t leave Tenerife if it’s more to your liking to stay on one island.

The best way to enjoy a jeep safari on holiday to Tenerife is make sure you’re dressed properly. Being open topped, there may be little shade during parts of the tour, so sun hat, sun glasses and plenty of sun screen is a must. Also, take warmer items of clothing since it can feel cool in the higher altitudes.

Tours to La Gomera last for about 11 hours and run daily. They’re popular so be sure to book early to avoid any disappointment, and remember to take your passport with you to show before you board the ferry. As will any tour of this nature, the exact route is liable to change depending on the weather or local conditions, but the tour operators make sure the content and sights are very similar regardless of the actual route taken.

Travelling in jeep convoy around the area is a unique experience and will take you into areas you might not ordinarily see. It’s a relaxing and very different way to spend a day. Don’t forget your camera as there are plenty of photo opportunities along the way.
