Even going out early the ground was smouldering and sending up a disorientating haze. The birds were silent and the grass still, as if too hot to move and it’s not yet summer. Unbelievably the dust warnings that had been issued previously by Aemet for most of the Canary Islands have been cancelled. Although high winds are currently being forecast for Sunday and Monday. With luck, they will blow all this dusty air away. Temperatures this morning at just gone 8.00am are 30°C.
Yesterday the heat was devastating, and the sun was at full blast despite the haze. I thought I was going to shrivel up and it was difficult to breathe. I don’t usually feel this drained, but regardless of the shade, a straw hat and dark glasses, the sun seemed to eat into my skin and eyes and we all ended up indoors, with the fans fighting a losing battle of trying to cool us down. Hardly surprising as temperatures hit 36°C for most of the day.
