As one carnival ends, another begins

The program and news of Los Cristianos 2017 International Carnival were presented today (March 2) at a press conference at the Cultural Centre in Los Cristianos, a meeting in which the mayor of Arona, José Julián Mena participated; together with Councillor for Tourism, David Perez; Councillor of Fiestas, Pura Martín, and Miriam Reyes, who performed the Carnival song.

This year’s theme is Las Vegas – a city that links greats like Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, and Marilyn Monroe, and following the theme Arona will fill the South of Tenerife with a spectacular show, of glamour, colour, and music.

The poster (below) designed by Luis Marrero shows a playing card representing both good and evil.

The official carnival song, Póker de Carnaval (Viva Las Vegas), performed by Tenerife singer Míriam Reyes will be released on video on March 8th at 5:00p.m.

It is expected that more than 100,000 people will attend the different events that will begin on March 17, and end the 27 of March. Over the ten days, 25 different events will be held. The party will have three stages, located in the Plaza de la Pescadora, the exterior of the Cultural Centre and the main Carnival, which, as is tradition, will be located on the boulevard Chajofe.

This year, due to the numbers attending in 2016, bleachers (tiers of seats) will be installed. The stands will be erected on Sunday 19th and dismantled for the Carnival of Day.

More than 6,000 people will participate either directly or behind the scenes, and more than 3,000 people will take part in the Coso.

The full programme is HERE, but the main events will be Carnaval del Día Saturday 25th, the Gran Coso (main parade) Sunday 26th, and the Burial of the Sardine on Monday 27th.
