Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in Spain. In the Canary Islands, one in three men and one in five women will be diagnosed with cancer throughout their lives.
Many types of cancer could be prevented by avoiding exposure to common risk factors. In addition, a significant percentage of cancers can be cured by surgery, radiotherapy, or chemotherapy, especially if detected early.
Prevention and early detection are key to stopping the alarming increase in the incidence of this disease.
Every 4th of February, WHO supports the International Union Against Cancer and promotes means to alleviate the global burden of the disease.
The World Day against Cancer offers an opportunity to reflect and think about what we want to do, to commit ourselves, and to act.
