Five amazing things to do and see in Tenerife

You’ll have a fabulous time if all you do on holiday is laze on the beach and sip cocktails, but for a cheap holiday Tenerife offers so much more. For those who like to get out and about and visit the attractions, some off the beaten track, here’s a quick roundup of some the amazing sights and activities you won’t want to miss.

Visit Garachico Tucked away in the north west of the island is this lovely village, with far more to offer than you might imagine. There’s the main plaza, called La Libertad, with its iconic clock tower, palm trees and picture perfect buildings. For a small charge you can explore the former Convent of San Francisco that dates back to the 16th century and which is now in ruins. Elsewhere, the rock pools are worth exploring for the tropical fish darting in and out of cover among the rocks.

Learn scuba diving Even if you’ve never dived before, you can experience the wonders of life underwater. Experienced divers can explore shipwrecks, and complete beginners can learn under the expert tutelage of qualified dive instructors in a safe environment with all equipment provided. The undersea wildlife is diverse and exciting, with turtles, rays, many exotic tropical fish and even moray eels.

Visit the Anaga Mountains In the north east of the island, the Anaga Mountains offer superb hiking opportunities for those who like to get out in the open and close to nature. Donkey trails wind across the mountain, skirting ravines and through the forests and villages. It’s a protected region where life goes on much as it always did, well away from the tourist attractions of elsewhere on Tenerife. It’s also an excellent area for observing the night sky.

Go deep sea fishing Deep sea fishing is a great activity for groups of friends to enjoy together, especially if you introduce a competitive element into the day’s fishing. Rays, sharks, skipjacks and barracuda are waiting to be caught, then released of course. When you’ve saved money on flights and accommodation for a cheap holiday Tenerife has a wealth of excursions and local operators who can organise an exciting day on the open waves for you and your party.

Live it up in Playa de las Americas After a day on the go seeing the sights, what better way to cap it off than dancing the night away at one Tenerife’s many nightclubs, or enjoying a delicious meal in a romantic restaurant? On the Veronicas strip every night is party night so whenever you decide to live it up a little the fun is just a stroll away.

Tenerife is an island of real diversity. It can be laid back and natural or give you latest in entertainment. Whatever mood you’re in, you’ll find something to match it.
