Is Playa de las Americas Only for Party-Goers?

Playas de las Americas takes the crown as the party capital of Tenerife, but does that mean it’s a no-go destination for anyone not seeking lively after-dark entertainment?


If you are travelling as a family, you might think Playas de Americas Tenerife holidays will not be suitable, but give this resort a second look and you might be pleasantly surprised. Certainly, Playas de Americas Tenerife holidays do more than cater for party crowds, and this bustling resort can also hold lots of appeal for families.

For a start, there are lots of accommodation options, so you are spoiled for choice. When choosing accommodation, try to get a feel for the place and see what facilities are specifically available for families. If you want to stay at a hotel, focus on things such as whether it has pools dedicated for youngsters, children’s entertainment, kids’ clubs, play areas and other amenities that give the impression of being family-friendly. It is possible to find quiet accommodation in this area, so look for hotels tucked away and off the main roads or away from the main entertainment strips.

Aside from the lively clubs and pubs, one of the biggest draws to this part of Tenerife will be the beaches. There are six attractive beaches in Playas de las Americas, so for families this offers plenty of choice. The water is calm, shallow and inviting, with wide expanses of sand and great facilities, so there are ideal conditions for those holidaying with youngsters. Children are often quite happy to spend all of their holiday either at the beach or the pool, so when you have superb facilities on your doorstep, you may not even venture out of the resort.

The location of Playas de las Americas does, however, hold lots of appeal for families. Based in the south of the island, the resort is nearby to lots of attractions, so if you do want to get out and about, everything is pretty much close to hand. The airport is only 20 minutes away, so you won’t have to endure long transfer times, which can be tiring for any child after a flight. Children can be fussy when it comes to mealtimes, so it is a welcome relief for families to discover that Playas de las Americas offers an extensive selection of cuisine options. Although you can find traditional fare locally, many of the eating establishments cater for children’s tastes, so if you are looking for sausages, burgers, fish fingers and those kind of staples, youngsters certainly won’t go hungry whilst on holiday.

The resort also offers parks and play areas for children, whilst the Safari Centre light and music show in the evenings is a big hit with little ones, and children are bound to be fascinated by the jumping water. For children who want to splash about in water themselves, there are also two water parks just outside the resort, making for a fun family day out.
