Los Cristianos Carnaval has fun for all

Planned all year, celebrated over ten days, and remembered for ever, that’s Los Cristianos Carnaval, and for 2016 the Cuban theme of Vieja Habana (Old Havana) offers plenty of scope for fun from 4 to 14 March.

If you’re a guest of Spring Hoteles you are in easy reach of all the events, it starts at 9 pm on Friday 4 March with the candidates for Carnaval Queen and the infant version paraded at the big stage showground next to the Valdes Centre in the heart of Los Cristianos. The action spreads to Playa de Las Americas on Saturday 5 March for the introduction parade from CC Gala to CC Oasis starting at 7 pm. Then the night rolls into the morning with the Wig Party at the showground from 10 pm.

Carnaval 2

Everyday brings new explosions of colour, music, and dance with the big stage rocking into each morning. Look out for the amazing costumes of the Murgas at 6 pm on Sunday, the Infant Queen election Tuesday at 8 pm, and the Queen gets chosen on Wednesday at 9 pm. The Drag Queen will be looking to upstage them on Friday from 9 pm.

Carnaval

The Day Carnaval on Saturday 12 March fills the showground from noon with acts from Spain’s Top 40, and the fancy dress contest from 5 pm at the Plaza del Pescadora is at the old beach. Sunday is the big showpiece Coso Parade from just beyond the Arona Gran to the Cultural Centre  from 4 pm, it’s charming, cheeky, loud, and proud. One last whirl of madness on Monday 14 from 8.30 pm as the giant sardine is carried on a wave of drum beats and fancy dress to its funeral in a blaze of fireworks at the old beach. That should leave you with just enough energy for the final late night of dancing at the showground.
